Externally, Taurus rules the throat, neck, ears and lower jaw. Internally, this Sign governs the vocal chords, tonsils and palate. Those under the influence of Taurus can often be identified by their long and expressive necks. In particular, the Taurus female typically has lovely skin around the throat and collarbone area while both sexes are known for their melodious speaking voices. Many Taurus subjects are fine singers. Given these bodily jurisdictions, however, Taurus individuals are prone to throat-related problems (hoarseness for example) and appear to be particularly vulnerable to suffer from colds which settle in the throat. There is also a tendency to be more susceptible to Strep infections and Taurus subjects seem to experience more painful sore throats of longer duration than any other Zodiac Sign. Coughs, earaches, laryngitis, stiff necks and minor injuries around the area of the neck are also common complaints for those born under this Sign. In addition, Taurus seems to be especially prone to the danger of a stroke. When Taurus becomes physically tired or overly-tense, a cough or a stiff neck is frequently the outward manifestation. In fact, many Taurus individuals through much of life with a semi-permanent "crick" in the neck. With keen taste buds, Taurus subjects are individuals of impeccably good taste and nobody loves food more than those born under the influence of this Sign. However, therein lies a possible problem of serious weight gain, especially later in life. This is something that only Taurus himself or herself has the ability to control and it is far from easy, given the inherent craving of this Sign for buttery gravies, freshly-baked bread and rich desserts. There is also another reason for weight gain which is commonly linked to Taurus...a hypothyroid condition associated with the small, ductless, endocrine gland known as the thyroid which sits in the center of the neck, nestled near the larynx and vocal chords. More women than men tend to develop a malfunctioning hypothyroid and those women who have borne children are more likely to have a borderline low hypothyroid condition than anyone else. The ruling planet of Taurus (Venus) has an effect on the parathyroids, which control the calcium level in the body. Venus also traditionally rules the throat, kidneys and lumbar region.
Being a hardy sign with great stamina and endurance, Taurus does not get sick very often. This is a physically strong and solidly-built sign with a heavy chest and torso. Even those Taurus subjects who are not fat may still appear physically dense and characteristically stout (perhaps even "barrel-chested") with thick legs. However, when Taurus does fall ill, there is a tendency to "go down" like the proverbial "felled ox" and he or she will feel absolutely miserable. Often, health problems are brought about by feelings of threatened security and any interruption in the normal routine, or even dissatisfaction in the workplace, may also be factors in the well-being of Taurus. In addition to the ever-present possibility of obesity, Taurus individuals may be prone to eczema, diabetes and related complications.
Since Taurus is fond of food and could never be considered a "picky eater," nutrition is usually taken care of adequately...at least in the early years. Fruits, vegetables, bread and meat are all considered favorites of this sign (Taurus subjects find stomach-filling and wholesome foods to be constantly tempting) and such individuals appear to know instinctively the wisdom and value of including all the food categories in daily diets. In the middle and later years however, a close watch should be kept on the appetite and on the intake of sugar. Starchy pastries and cakes, for instance, should be avoided. On the whole, Taurus subjects tend to be somewhat heavily-built, which is frequently a side effect of the inherent love for fattening foods, tendency toward indolence and dislike of physical exercise. Nontheless, some do manage to maintain a slim figure (Cher and Candice Bergen, for example) but such is usually only achieved through great effort and determination.
The Taurus cell salt is sulphate of sodium, a mineral that controls the amount of water in the system. It is present in the liver, pancreas and hormones of the kidneys. An imbalance of this mineral in the body can cause bloating, symptoms of congestion around the thyroid gland and a general feeling of being "waterlogged." Some foods that contain this mineral are: asparagus; beets; cauliflower; horseradish; Swiss chard; spinach; cucumber; onions; pumpkin; raw nuts; and cranberries. Celery can also be helpful to Taurus since it clears the system after over-indulgence (an unfortunate Taurus trait). In addition, plenty of water should be consumed in order to flush-out the impurities. Since carbohydrates have a way of turning to fat within the Taurus anatomy, they should be avoided. Heavy, rich foods are also taboo. In order to keep the thyroid functioning at its best, the Taurus diet should include foods which contain natural iodine, such as fish and seafood. Other foods that help keep Taurus healthy are eggs, liver, kidney beans, wheat germ, fresh fruit and green salads. In general, it is very important for Taurus to maintain a diet low in starch, fat and sugar, due to the inherent proclavity for weight gain.
Not much given to exercise, this Sign is far from the most physically active of the Zodiac, and Taurus individuals may suffer from puffy eyes and jowls, with the face becoming increasingly heavier as time goes by. Nevertheless, most Taurus individuals do enjoy certain forms of exercise in moderation. One great love of those who fall under the jurisdiction of this Sign is being outdoors...perhaps puttering around in a flower or vegetable garden. In general, Taurus relishes the beauty of Mother Nature in a multitude of ways. It is unlikely that such an individual will jog daily, but a brisk walk every day will serve to stem the tendency to put on weight. Taurus may also enjoy dancing, aerobics, yoga, weight-training, bowling or billiards.
Taurus individuals are happiest when living on the slopes of undulating countryside, but best of all, Taurus likes to make his or her home in a region of wooded uplands.
